The East African Community Secretariat in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), formerly GTZ and the Deutsche Welle Akademie, is to conduct an advanced training on regional integration reporting between 23 November and 3 December in Bujumbura, Burundi.
The training is meant to achieve greater knowledge and understanding of the concept of regional integration in general and of the Organs, Institutions and policies of the EAC.
The training is also aimed at enhancing the journalistic skills of the reporters when covering regional integration issues. The training programme will bring together 15 senior to middle-level journalists, three from each Partner State, working in newspapers, magazines, online publications, news agencies, radio and television.
Journalists will learn how to transfer their knowledge of EAC matters into their practical work. The selected journalists will have a practical stint to cover the First Lake Tanganyika Basin Development Conference (unlocking the overflowing trade and Investment opportunities in the Basin), the climax of East African Legislative Assembly’s (EALA) 10th Anniversary, the official opening of the EAC Council of Ministers meeting and the Summit of Heads of State all taking place within the same period in Bujumbura.
The application for the advanced training programme is now open and the deadline is 2 November, 2011.
The short listing and decision for admission to the training programme will be done by the GIZ Headquarters in Bonn, Germany.
Candidates who had attended the previous two trainings will have an added advantage in the selection criteria.

Accommodation and half boarding for the successful participants will be borne by Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Employers of successful candidates are requested to take over or contribute to the international travel costs to and from Bujumbura. If the employing agency is not able to contribute, GIZ is-- upon request by the EAC Secretariat—to provide return tickets to Bujumbura from the nearest international airport in the respective home country.
